At OLMC, we offer Drama cocurricular activities to extend all aspects of theatre, from scriptwriting to directing.
Riverside Sharp Short Theatre Competition
This competition is run by Riverside Theatres Parramatta and is an opportunity for students to create their own original pieces of theatre. They are the writers, directors, and performers. In 2021, we competed in this competition for the first time and were awarded “Best Ensemble Performance”.
We are continuing our involvement in 2022. Students from Years 7-11 will be invited to come to the Drama rooms once a week at lunchtime to develop a piece of theatre in small groups. We will then hold an internal showcase and select participants to represent the College at the Riverside Theatres competition in early June.
ATYP (Australian Theatre for Young People) Intersection Festival
This year OLMC will be participating in a new initiative run by the Australian theatre for Young People (ATYP). ATYP describes the Intersection Festival as an opportunity for students to work with ATYP to present new Australian stories. ATYP provides participants with 7-minute plays written by emerging Australian writers. OLMC students will have the opportunity to explore characterisation, design elements and direction.
Once a week, students from Years 8-11 will meet at lunchtime in groups of 2-5 to rehearse with the scripts provided. We will then be running an internal festival at OLMC at the start of Term 3 to select entries for submission in the formal ATYP Intersection Festival in August. The ATYP team selects ten works from across the state to the showcased in The Rebel Theatre, Dawes Point.
Theatresports Drop-In
During Term 4, students will have the opportunity to participate in Theatresports. Theatresports consists of a range of improvisational games, with a focus on collaboration and creativity.
This is an informal opportunity to play around with the art of improvisation and is open to all year groups. Once a week during lunchtime, students can come to the drama rooms to experiment and have a bit of fun.
